DIVISION OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Pacific West College of Law had three (3) Educational and Learning Programs comprised of LEX GENESIS, LEX EXCELLENCE and LEX OMNI Program. Each Educational program comprised of different Degrees offered by Pacific West College of Law as indicated below.

REGISTRATION AS A LAW SCHOOL IN CALIFORNIA

PACIFIC WEST COLLEGE OF LAW is registered as an Unaccredited Fixed-Facility Law School in California and has degree granting authority for the Juris Doctor degree (J.D) from the State of California Committee of Bar Examiners.

The Committee of Bar Examiners also acquiesce the existence of Law Latin Master in Taxation (L.L.M in Tax) and Law Latin Master in Environmental Law (L.L.M in Environmental Law) offered by Pacific West College of Law pursuant to Guideline 11.5 of the Guidelines for Unaccredited Law School Rules. These two LLM Degrees DO NOT lead to the practice of law in California and in any other jurisdiction.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

LEX GENESIS PROGRAM

Lex Genesis is a coordinated program designed for first-year law students to aid them in getting through the most difficult time in any law school. The Program is essential not only for the requirement of the First Year Law Students Exam (Baby Bar) but also serves as the foundation for each student's law school and legal career. Essential to the program is that the professors demonstrate to the students a different teaching method for each course, from Socratic to self-motivation to self-discipline.

The Lex Genesis program is coordinated by and among the first year law course instructors. Through Legal Analysis I and Complex Theories of Law I and II, professors aid in the determination of the exams for all of first year courses. This allows consolidation of the most effective exam writing styles and techniques, and it helps students to quickly gain maximum proficiency and efficiency in exam writing. Students then have the freedom to master other skills in the study and practice of law.

Upper division students are encouraged to participate in the Lex Genesis program by counseling first-year students and providing practice exam sessions. These tutorials are coordinated with the aid of the Legal Analysis professor.

The second and third years of law school at Pacific West College of Law reinforce the principles of the Lex Genesis program while exposing the students to an even greater variety of teaching methods and learning techniques designed to raise the students' confidence in their abilities to understand and be able to carry out the actual practice of Law.

LEX EXCELLENCE PROGRAM

This program is designed primarily for the second, third, and fourth years of law study to excite, entice, and induce interest in the actual practice of law. Most Graduates of Pacific West College of Law who successfully pass the State Bar Exam, began practice as a sole practitioner because the Lex Excellence program has allowed them to learn how to make a living as an attorney. Graduates of Pacific West find that they do not need to join a law firm to find out how to make a living as a lawyer.

The Faculty at Pacific west has always helped graduates with their cases. This post graduation support by the Faculty is critical to the success of the graduates and demonstrates the extent of the commitment to excellence that the Faculty has for the students.

The Lex Excellence program requires classes such as Legal Analysis II, Civil Procedure III, Trial Practice I and Trial Practice II.

Legal Analysis II is for the practical aspect of California Civil Procedure. The class covers the client interviews, ethical considerations, the filing and serving of complaints, responsive papers (answer to complaints, demurrers, motions to strike, etc.), the preparation of discovery and discovery responses and procedures of conducting a deposition etc.

Civil Procedure III is also for the practical aspect of California Civil Procedure. The class drafts numerous pleadings such as Temporary Restraining Order both moving and Opposing papers, Motion For Summary Judgment/Adjudication both moving and Opposing papers, 597/598 Motion, Motion in Limine.

Trial Practice I deals with law and motion, pre-trial motions, provisional remedies, motions in limine, criminal arraignments, and pre-trial and preliminary hearings. The class covers civil and criminal matters up to the time of trial.

Trial Practice II begins with jury selection and ends with closing arguments in civil and criminal cases. In Trial Practice II students will perform 9 trials back to back in which students must research the law, review the file, prepare their witnesses, present opening statements, conduct witness examinations (both direct and cross examinations) and present closing arguments.

LEX OMNI PROGRAM

This third program is comprised of several advanced degree programs that are designed to provide legal educational enhancements to students not pursuing either a Bachelor of Science in Law or a Juris Doctor degree. These degree programs accommodate two types of students. The first two programs are for the current practicing attorney or Juris Doctorate Degree holder, and the third program is for the non-attorney business person who already holds a bachelors or masters’ degree and does not wish to pursue a Juris Doctorate but desires a practical legal education for career enhancement.

For attorneys and individual who hold a Juris Doctorate Degree, Pacific West College of Law offers the Latin Law Masters Degrees in both Taxation and Environmental Law. Known as the LL.M. these are specialized degrees primarily for the practice of Tax Law or Environmental Law. Both LL.M. degrees are fully qualified Master Degree Programs, meeting the 30 unit requirement of the California Education Code. These unique degrees offer law school graduates a wide variety of challenging career choices which will give them an advantage in the competitive job market.
